My
name
is
Kaida,
which
is
a
Japanese
name
meaning
"sea
dragon".
Despite
being
born
and
raised
in
the
United
States,
my
parents
wanted
to
give
me
an
exotic
name
that
reflected
our
family's
love
for
Japanese
culture.
Growing
up,
I
was
always
fascinated
by
the
beautiful
artwork
and
architecture
of
Japan.
I
remember
going
to
a
Japanese
festival
with
my
family
and
being
mesmerized
by
the
intricate
designs
on
the
kimonos
and
the
delicate
flowers
in
the
bonsai
trees.
As
I
grew
older,
I
started
learning
about
the
language
and
history
of
Japan.
I
even
had
the
opportunity
to
study
abroad
in
Tokyo
for
a
semester
during
college.
Living
and
studying
in
Japan
was
a
dream
come
true
and
I
felt
a
deep
connection
to
the
country
and
its
people.
Now,
as
an
adult,
I
still
carry
my
love
for

with
me.
I
collect
Japanese
art
and
pottery,
cook
traditional
dishes,
and
practice
martial
arts
influenced
by
Japanese
culture.
My
name
has
become
a
part
of
my
identity
and
represents
not
only
my
love
for
Japan,
but
also
my
uniqueness
as
an
individual.
It
may
be
difficult
for
some
to
pronounce
or
spell,
but
I
am
proud
to
carry
the
name
Kaida
and
all
that
it
represents.
