Choosing
an
English
Name
In
many
countries,
it
is
common
to
choose
an
English
name
when
learning
or
using
the
language.
This
practice
is
also
common
among
Chinese
students.
Most
of
them
choose
their
names
based
on
their
favorite
English
characters
or
simply
random
names.
For
me,
I
decided
to
use
the
name
Rachel.
While
many
factors
played
into
my
decision,
my
primary

reason
was
that
it
was
easy
to
remember
and
pronounce.
Furthermore,
I
wanted
to
choose
a
name
that
had
a
positive
connotation
and
had
a
good
meaning.
Using
an
English
name
has
its
advantages.
It
can
help
people
remember
your
name
easier,
especially
if
your
given
name
is
difficult
to
pronounce.
It
can
also
give
you
a
sense
of
privacy.
Many
of
my
Chinese
friends
feel
that
using
an
English
name
at
work
can
keep
their
personal
lives
separate
from
their
professional
lives.
Using
an
English
name
can
also
have
some
disadvantages.
Sometimes,
it
is
perceived
as
a
form
of
assimilation,
and
people
may
judge
you
for
not
using
your
given
name.
Additionally,
people
may
not
understand
why
you
chose
a
certain
name,
especially
if
it
is
not
a
typical
English
name.
Regardless
of
the
pros
and
cons,
choosing
an
English
name
is
a
personal
decision.
Ultimately,
it
comes
down
to
your
individual
preference
and
how
you
want
to
represent
yourself.
For
me,
using
Rachel
has
been
a
great
way
to
integrate
into
Western
culture
and
connect
with
people
from
different
backgrounds.
